Lanzarote is a fabulous destination for a family holiday: calm-water beaches, otherworldly landscapes, a mild climate all year round and a wide range of accommodation to suit every kind of traveller.

If you're planning a family trip to Lanzarote and don't know which area to stay in or which hotel to choose, in this post I'll tell you the best areas to stay in Lanzarote with kids and give you recommendations for family hotels where both children and adults will have a great time.

Playa Blanca

Playa Blanca is one of the most convenient and family-friendly areas of Lanzarote. In the south of the island, it has a seafront promenade ideal for strolling with a pushchair, calm golden-sand beaches like Playa Flamingo, and all the amenities to hand: supermarkets, restaurants, ice-cream shops and playgrounds.

What's more, from here you can go on boat trips, visit Playa de Papagayo or head to the Aqualava water park, which little ones love.

Which is the best area to stay in Lanzarote with kids?

Well, it depends on the kind of family you are and the type of holiday you're after. But having been there with our girls, my recommendations are:

If your idea of a holiday is relaxing on the beach, forgetting the car and having everything at the hotel, then Playa Blanca could be your place. It's quiet, with calm-water beaches perfect for children, and there are plenty of all-inclusive places or apartments with a kitchen, which can sometimes be a lifesaver when the little ones arrive tired or hungry at off-peak hours.

On the other hand, if you're the sort who wants to explore the island in depth, go somewhere different every day and combine beach with nature, Costa Teguise is very well located. From there you can easily reach the north and the south, and it also has good amenities, family beaches and restaurants where you eat very well without any fuss.

For those after a bit more lively atmosphere, with bustling seafront promenades, ice-cream shops everywhere and theme parks nearby, Puerto del Carmen can be a really fun option. Many families come back year after year because it combines beach, leisure and a good choice of hotels.

And if you're more into the rural, the authentic and the peaceful, the north of the island has a very special charm. Villages like Haría or Arrieta gave us some really lovely moments, with quiet beaches and that feeling of discovering something more local. It might not be your first choice if it's your first time in Lanzarote, but if you're looking for calm, a connection with nature and a slower pace, it's ideal.

In the end, each area has its own thing, and the good news is that the distances in Lanzarote are so short that, wherever you choose, you'll be able to discover the whole island with no trouble.
