8 places to eat in La Palma (that we've tried)

It's no secret that you eat well in the Canary Islands. And the island of La Palma is one of the Canary Islands where you eat best. Over several trips to the beautiful island, we've discovered fabulous places to enjoy the local cuisine. In this post I share 8 places to eat in La Palma.

Where to eat in La Palma, in brief

• Variety: grill houses and cave-cooked meat, fresh fish by the sea, Canarian dishes and charming cafés.

• With kids: Chipi Chipi and the Puntagorda market are the easiest.

Restaurante Chipi Chipi

The Chipi Chipi restaurant is one of the most iconic places to eat in La Palma, and if you're travelling around the island, I'd recommend visiting. Chipi Chipi is a simple yet very charming place. You can eat on the terrace or in small private rooms with their little greenish windows. They're absolutely adorable! If you go with kids, they'll love the animals in the garden: budgies and tortoises. This is the typical restaurant you'll visit more than once during your holiday in La Palma — I'm telling you from experience.

Bodegón Tamanca

Bodegón Tamanca is, for me, one of the best places to eat in La Palma. Probably because it's a place I remember fondly from the first trip I made to La Palma as a child. Bodegón Tamanca is in El Paso, specifically in Las Manchas. It's the ideal spot for lovers of meat and good wine. Its menu features traditional food and house wine, which you can also buy to take away. It's a place with a lot of charm, as it's set inside a cave. Inside, the floor is volcanic gravel (picón) and barrels decorate the cellar walls. As you can see, the place itself is already a unique experience. After the 2021 eruption it was closed for a while, but it's reopened: the cave wasn't damaged.

Restaurante Asador del Campesino

The Asador del Campesino restaurant is a cosy, traditional restaurant in Barlovento. Its speciality is grilled meats and typical Canarian dishes. The chargrilled pork is delicious. By the way, don't forget to book before you go, as it's a very popular restaurant in La Palma.

Restaurante La Casa del Volcán

Eating at la Casa del Volcán can be a great plan after doing the volcano route, as it's near the San Antonio volcano. The quality of its dishes is exquisite, but what I really must highlight about this place is the friendliness and professionalism of its staff. The restaurant is lovely and surrounded by vineyards; they make their own wine, which I'd recommend trying. Don't miss the bienmesabe with lemon ice cream.

El Jardín de la Sal

The setting of the El Jardín de la Sal restaurant is a pleasure for the senses. In the south of the island, right next to the Fuencaliente lighthouse and facing the salt pools, sits this wonderful restaurant. Its menu is varied, with a focus on local produce but with an elegant touch. I'd recommend trying the salt-baked king prawns and, for dessert, the chocolate cake with almond ice cream. By the way, the sunsets from here are stunning. In fact, it's been awarded a Bib Gourmand in the Michelin Guide 2026.

Casa Goyo

Casa Goyo is a simple restaurant with a very peculiar layout. Its menu, based on fish and fresh seafood, makes it one of the best places on the island to eat fish. It's very close to the airport, which makes it the perfect place to start or end your trip. Don't expect great luxury at Casa Goyo, but you'll get good service and good value for money.

Mercadillo del Agricultor de Puntagorda

It's not a restaurant or a café, but the Puntagorda Farmers' Market is one of the places where we ate best in La Palma. The market opens on Saturdays from 15:00 to 19:00 and Sundays from 11:00 to 15:00. There are lots of stalls selling fresh, local produce: cheese, olives, fruit and vegetables, and several very tempting sweet stalls. There's also a little sugar-cane stall we loved, where you can buy a freshly squeezed juice.

The best part is that right opposite the Puntagorda Farmers' Market there's a picnic area under the trees, where you can sit and enjoy the local produce you've bought. It also has a play area with a swing and slide.

Above you can see some of the things we bought, which turned into a delicious lunch: almond mojo, soft cheese, pickles and assorted olives with some tasty country bread.

Café de Don Manuel

In the very heart of Santa Cruz de La Palma is the Café de don Manuel. I stopped at the door, drawn in by a super cute bicycle I just had to take a couple of photos with, but when I looked inside I knew I had to go in. The Café de Don Manuel is a beautiful café in the inner courtyard of La Casa Cabrera. The coffee is delicious and I'd recommend pairing it with some of the cakes. So good!
