The price depends on age and on whether you’re a Canary Islands resident. These are the official Poema del Mar prices:

• Non-residents: €29 adults (12+) and €19 kids aged 3 to 11. Under-3s go free.
• Canary Islands residents: €19 adults and €14 kids. At the entrance you’ll be asked for a document proving your Canary Islands residency.

The Poema del Mar Aquarium is open every day of the year, from 9:30 to 17:30. We recommend arriving with time to spare so you can take it in at a relaxed pace, especially with kids.

How to get to Poema del Mar and where to park

The Poema del Mar aquarium is at Muelle Sanapú, in the heart of the port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Av. de los Consignatarios, s/n). You have several ways to get there:

On foot or by cruise

If you arrive by cruise, the aquarium is a few minutes’ walk from the port, at Muelle Sanapú (no. 22). From the centre of Las Palmas it’s also walkable, and Las Canteras beach is 10-15 minutes away.

By bus

City lines 12, 21, 45, 47 and 60 stop near the aquarium. From the airport, take bus 60 or 91 to Santa Catalina station and walk about 8 minutes.

By car and parking

From the airport it’s about 25 km (25 minutes): take the GC-1 exit towards Las Palmas and follow the signs. The aquarium doesn’t have its own car park, but there are two very handy options right next door:

Parking Sanapú (next to the aquarium, with room for 300 cars and 10 buses):

• Monday to Friday (9:00 to 14:00): €0.017/minute (€1/hour).
• Monday to Friday (14:00 to 9:00) and weekends 24 h: €0.0083/minute (€0.50/hour).
• 24-hour rate: €7.50 on weekdays; €2.50 weekends and public holidays.

C.C. El Muelle car park: the first 3 hours are free with a minimum spend of €6 at the El Muelle shopping centre, which is a few steps from the aquarium. It’s the option we like best, because afterwards we make the most of it to eat and have a wander around the shopping centre.

What to see at Poema del Mar

Poema del Mar belongs to the Loro Parque Group(Siam Park, Loro Park) and is considered one of the most spectacular aquariums in Europe. The route is split into three big areas:

• Jungle Zone: where the route begins, with a spectacular jungle atmosphere. Here you’ll find the Cenote, the piranhas, the crocodiles, the pig-nosed turtle and the river giants. A real treat for the little ones.
• Tropical Zone: with the famous Nemo Kids (the children go wild), the Atoll, the Red Sea, mangroves, corals, jellyfish and seahorses, and the Tropical Beach.
• Deep Ocean: the most impressive stretch, with the world’s largest curved-glass saltwater tank — 140 tonnes, 36 metres long and 7 metres high. There’s also the Veril, with more than 100 moray eels, the Submarine Canyon, the Sea Dragons and the octopuses.

Where to eat at Poema del Mar

Inside Poema del Mar there are two options for eating:

• Restaurante Néstor: the most special one, with an à la carte menu and a set menu of the day and direct views of the great Deep Ocean tank. A unique experience — eating while you watch the sharks go by.
• Snack Bar Nemo: perfect for a quick bite before carrying on with your visit. It’s next to the Reef exhibit.

Tips for visiting Poema del Mar

• Buy your tickets in advance to avoid queues and secure your time slot.
• Allow 2 to 3 hours to see it at a relaxed pace; with young kids it can take a bit longer.
• It’s an ideal plan if you arrive by cruise, and perfect for rainy or very hot days.
• A few minutes away you have Las Canteras beach and the Elder Museum, if you want more plans to round off the day.
• There’s free WiFi throughout the aquarium and an official gift shop at the exit.
• Pets aren’t allowed, and you can’t feed the animals. Professional photography equipment is only permitted on request.

Poema del Mar with kids and accessibility

Poema del Mar is one of the best things to do with kids in Las Palmas. Under-3s go free and children love Nemo Kids and watching the sharks pass by through the great glass of the Deep Ocean. The aquarium is also well adapted:

• Accessible with a buggy and wheelchair: there are lifts and the route is flat.
• Several toilets and rest areas around the aquarium.
• The dark areas of the big tanks are striking for a moment, but the sharks are seen behind the glass and most kids are more amazed than scared.
