The sculpture of La Giganta de Santa Úrsula has become one of the most Instagrammable spots in Tenerife. In this post I’ll tell you everything you need to know before visiting La Giganta de Santa Úrsula.
La Giganta de Santa Úrsula
The sculpture was commissioned by Santa Úrsula town council from the company Wisteria Paisajismo, as part of a vertical garden in the Jardín Social La Quinta park. It’s made of cement with a permanent plant covering that gives it a natural look and blends perfectly into the landscape.
La Giganta is 4 metres tall and sits emerging from a rocky bed. Her appearance changes depending on the time of year you visit. The sculpture of La Giganta de Santa Úrsula has become an emblem of the municipality of Santa Úrsula and is without doubt a must-stop for tourists and locals alike.
Behind the sculpture of La Giganta there’s a small walkway and some steps made of wood that take you up to the sculpture’s head. If you stand up there, someone below can take a lovely photo of you with La Giganta.
And that’s the real draw of the spot: Mount Teide appears right behind La Giganta, so you get both in the same photo. If that gives you ideas, here’s everything worth knowing before you go up.
Parque Jardín Social La Quinta
But the Jardín Social La Quinta park is much more than the La Giganta sculpture. It’s a park with beautiful greenery, perfect for a stroll, for the kids to play and to switch off from the daily hustle.
There’s a sports area with a range of machines, for working out and training different muscle groups.
The Jardín Social La Quinta park is dotted with colourful benches like the one below: some pink, others painted in rainbow colours. (I did tell you it was one of the most Instagrammable spots in Tenerife).
Where is La Giganta de Santa Úrsula?
La Giganta de Santa Úrsula is in the Jardín Social de La Quinta in the municipality of Santa Úrsula in the north of Tenerife. The exact address is Avenida los Pesqueros, 13, 38390 Santa Úrsula, Tenerife.
Opening hours
La Quinta is a public park: no gate, no ticket office, nothing to pay. It’s open all day, though I’d go in daylight to enjoy it properly. Between La Giganta and a wander round the garden, allow a good half hour.
Where to park
The street that goes down to the Jardín Social La Quinta park has parking spaces on both sides and isn’t a paid (blue) zone, so you can park completely free. You’ll usually find a spot easily. If you don’t have a car for your trip yet, you can compare prices from local Tenerife rental companies on Localrent.
As you can see, La Quinta park with its Giganta is a different sort of spot and well worth the stop. It’s a short visit, ideal on the way north or to fill an hour before lunch at one of the guachinches in Santa Úrsula, like El Churrasco or El Primero (ha, I had to bring up food at some point :p). Do ring ahead, though: guachinches open by season, for as long as the house wine lasts, and some shut for months at a time. If you find it closed, just next door in La Orotava there’s Guachinche El Romance.
