How to get the permit to climb the summit of the Teide in 2026: price, where to book it, places, requirements and alternatives.

Climbing to the summit of the Teide, the highest peak in Spain (3,715 m), is a unique experience. But to set foot on the summit you need a special permit, and since 2026 both the way to book it and its price have changed. Here I’ll explain what you need and how to get it.

What permit do you need to climb the summit?
To reach the summit you walk the PNT-10 “Telesforo Bravo” trail, which climbs from La Rambleta (the cable car’s upper station) to the peak of the Teide. It’s strictly regulated access: you need prior authorisation and places are limited.
You reach La Rambleta by cable car (the ticket is bought separately at volcanoteide.com) or on foot via the PNT-07 or PNT-09 trails, which also have their own permit.
How much does the permit cost?
Since 2026, the PNT-10 Telesforo Bravo permit has these rates (for time slots within the cable car’s hours, 9:00 to 17:00):
- Tenerife residents: free.
- Under-14s: free.
- Residents of the rest of the Canaries: €6.
- Everyone else: €15.
Where and how to book the permit?
Bookings are made on the TenerifeON platform, from the trail’s own page: PNT-10 Telesforo Bravo. First you’ll need to register, which is free.
The key is in how the places are released: every Monday at 7:00 (Canary Islands time) new dates open up, with a maximum of 56 days’ notice. The furthest dates appear greyed out until they open, and the places fly, so it’s best to book as soon as they’re released.
On the page you choose the day and time slot, say how many of you are going and fill in the details.
Requirements and important rules
- Always carry the authorisation (printed or on your phone) along with your ID or passport; you may be asked for them.
- Under-3s can’t go up, and under-16s must be accompanied by an adult.
- It’s not a stroll: it’s a high-mountain trail, not suitable for people with heart, breathing or mobility problems.
- Mandatory equipment (without it you can be denied access, even with a booking): mountain footwear, warm clothing, water and food, a charged phone, a thermal blanket, a torch or head torch, a hat and gloves; with ice or snow, crampons and an ice axe.
- If you end up not going, cancel the booking: not doing so can bar you for 3 months.
No places? Other options
If you can’t find a slot for your dates, don’t despair — you have alternatives:
- Book a guided tour to climb the summit with an accredited guide, who handles the permit for you.
- Spending the night at the Altavista Refuge to climb at dawn was another classic option, but right now the refuge is closed for works with no confirmed reopening date (it’ll be announced on TenerifeON).
