La Pulpería in Corralejo: where to eat tapas and octopus in Fuerteventura

La Pulpería in Corralejo is a Fuerteventura must for tapas, octopus, tuna and homemade desserts. What we ordered, what it cost and what to know first.

La Pulpería in Corralejo, where to eat tapas and octopus in Fuerteventura

If you're looking for somewhere to eat in Corralejo and you fancy some really good tapas, La Pulpería has to be on your list. They specialise in octopus, red tuna and tapas made with proper quality produce, and it has become one of the most popular restaurants in Corralejo.

We went during our trip to Fuerteventura and we loved it. So let me tell you what we ordered, what it costs to eat at La Pulpería, and everything you should know before you go.

La Pulpería, Corralejo

La Pulpería opened in 2019 and it has not stopped growing since. There is an indoor area and a lovely terrace.

The decor is gorgeous. I could not tell you how many photos I have taken in here, haha. Walls panelled in wood, exposed copper pipes that give it a bit of an industrial feel.

Everywhere you look there are handwritten blackboards with the tapas, the wines and the craft beers, vintage posters, bottle caps, little plaques, and even a painted surfboard decorating the entrance. Corralejo is one of the surfiest parts of Fuerteventura, after all. All that decor, with its laid-back surf style, makes La Pulpería a really welcoming place with masses of character.

One thing I loved is that both the bar and the kitchen are in full view, with the bottles, the coffee machine and the team working away in front of you. And it all looks spotless.

What we ordered

We went for lunch, and this is what we ate at La Pulpería.

To drink:

  • 2 homemade lemonades for the girls
  • 1 homemade iced tea for Dad
  • A glass of homemade sangría for me. They also do cava sangría, by the way.

To eat we ordered:

  • Nachos with melted cheese, pico de gallo, jalapeños and guacamole.
  • Teriyaki octopus tentacles: octopus done Japanese style, with wakame seaweed and toasted sesame. Octopus is the star of the show here and there are lots of options. The girls love wakame, so that one was an easy choice.
  • Prawn skewers with chimichurri.
  • Griddled prawn tacos, with a hint of lime.
  • Tuna tartare with white gazpacho (hand-cut red tuna).

For dessert:

We only ordered two desserts to share.

  • Polvito uruguayo tart and choco torta, which were the specials of the day and change regularly.

And two espressos. I have to stop here, because not enough is said about how good the coffee is at La Pulpería. It is proper Italian coffee, the kind that needs nothing adding to it. No sugar, no milk, just a good espresso and that is that. I would come back for the coffee alone, I am telling you.

They also have a really original dessert on the menu, by the way: the Tiramigofio®, their own creation, combining the best of the classic Italian tiramisù with one of the most typical products in the Canaries, gofio (toasted grain flour, a Canarian staple).

Everything was delicious. We liked absolutely everything we tried and we will definitely be back to La Pulpería.

They do not take bookings

Do not be put off if you arrive and see a lot of people waiting, because the queue moves quickly. While you wait, you can have a drink at the bar.

Parking nearby is difficult

I am warning you, because it happened to us. Parking in this part of Corralejo is terrible. It took us about 15 minutes to find a space and we ended up leaving the car quite a long way from La Pulpería.

The service

We found the staff friendly and attentive. We also noticed that the waitresses speak several languages, which is a real plus in an area as touristy as Corralejo. And we were lucky enough to meet the owner, who was lovely with us.

Why I recommend it

I recommend La Pulpería without hesitation, for its produce, its creative tapas, the octopus and the tuna, the homemade desserts and that spectacular Italian coffee. On top of that the atmosphere is lovely, the decor has masses of character and the staff are delightful.

Practical information

And that is my food recommendation for Corralejo. If you are going to Fuerteventura and you like eating well, La Pulpería has to be on your list. Let me know how you get on.

Spectacular, and it is one of the least talked-about things about the place. It is proper Italian coffee, the kind that does not even need sugar: a good espresso and that is it. For me, reason enough to drop in.
